Riera on his goals scored and today’s clash

Wanderers marquee man Oriol Riera says he’s expecting a difficult match today against Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Wanderers are set to play in their third game this week, having played in the Sydney Derby last Saturday and the Westfield FFA Cup Semi Final on Tuesday.

Despite the hectic scheduling, Riera says the team is ready both mentally and physically.

“I think it’s only mental work,” said Riera.

“I think we have had some very good performances and we have good feet to play three games in eight days.”

The Red & Black are currently undefeated against Newcastle at McDonald Jones Stadium and will be expecting a tough clash to hold onto this record.

“We know it will be a good fight and a good game.

“We know that the Jets have a very good squad.

“They like to defend very hard and very strong so we know it will be a difficult match.”

Having scored in every Hyundai A-League match to date, Riera admits that he still has room to improve.

“I am happy but for me, it would be better if we had nine points not five.

“We have to improve and we know that we have a big gap to improve on.

“Collectively we have to improve and I have to improve.

“I always think as a collective and as a squad.”
