The Western Sydney Wanderers Women are set to enter the upcoming Ninja A-League season with renewed energy and a mix of emerging talent and fresh signings, promising an exciting campaign for Red & Black fans.
At the heart of the Wanderers’ growth is midfielder Milly Bennett, who has committed her future to the club with a new two-year deal, keeping her in Red & Black until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Bennett’s rise through the Wanderers pathway has been nothing short of impressive.
Joining the club on a Youth Development Contract in 2023, she earned a scholarship deal last season and has now secured her first professional contract.
The 17-year-old has already made her mark on the national stage as part of the CommBank Young Matildas squad that qualified for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup in Tajikistan. Bennett, who made 16 appearances for the Wanderers last season, said she was excited to continue her development with the club.
“I think I had a great entry season last season. It was a really good environment and I think Geoff has had a lot of belief in me. I’m really excited for the season ahead and to continue to develop my football,” Bennett said.
Adding experience and strength to the backline is new signing Poppie Hooks.
The Perth-born defender arrives from the Illawarra Stingrays, where she spent two seasons in the National Premier League Women’s competition and earned a place in the NPL Women’s Team of the Year.
Known for her athletic and physical style of play, Hooks is eager to contribute to the Wanderers’ defensive unit.
“My personal goals are definitely to win matches and play my best type of football. I really like the passion of the fans at the Wanderers. I already know a lot of the girls here and I am excited to get going,” Hooks said.
With Bennett continuing her rapid rise and Hooks adding strength to the backline, the Wanderers Women are set to make their mark this season.
The future is bright for Red & Black fans, with a blend of emerging talent and proven performers ready to take the field.
