Western Sydney Wanderers FC have this morning confirmed the loan signing of Morgan Schneiderlin from Ligue 1 side Nice until the end of the A-Leagues season.
Schneiderlin arrives in Western Sydney after a decorated career in Europe playing in England and France’s top-flights for the last 16 seasons.
The midfielder began his career at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, where he played in three matches before joining Southampton in the Championship.
During his seven years at The Saints, Schneiderlin helped guide the squad to promotion to the English Premier League as well as winning the EFL Cup.
Such immense performances saw heavyweights Manchester United come calling with Schneiderlin making 47 appearances over two seasons at the club.
Schneiderlin was part of the United squad that won the FA Cup in 2015/16 and Community Shield in 2016/17.
The Frenchman continued his journey in the English Premier League with a four-season stint at Everton where he made over 70 appearances.
During his time in England at all three clubs, Schneiderlin collected the FA Cup, Community Shield and EFL Trophies together with being the runner-up in League One and the Championship.
Schneiderlin returned to France in June 2020 with Nice where he has featured in over 50 matches and was crowned the Coupe de France runner-up.
Alongside his domestic football achievements, Schneiderlin has made 16 appearances for the French national team and was part of the 2016 squad that were the runners-up of the European Championship as well as the 2014 World Cup squad.
Set to play outside of Europe for the first time in his career, Schneiderlin has arrived in Western Sydney and has linked up with the squad ahead of Saturday night’s clash against Central Coast Mariners in the A-Leagues competition.
Morgan Schneiderlin said he was excited to join the Wanderers.
“I am very excited to be here in Western Sydney with the Wanderers and I’m looking forward to starting my journey at the club,” said Schneiderlin.
“I have heard lots of good things about the Wanderers and I’m really ready to get started.”
