SEDA Group: Day in the Life by Blake

Blake from the Western Sydney Wanderers Sport & Business Program shares her day-to-day experiences in the one-year dual Diploma program powered by SEDA Group.

On my 1 hour commute to the Wanderers Football Park, I am keen to get started with my day and immerse myself in the learning experiences that this Diploma has to offer.

The program offers a unique blend of practical engagement and academic study, allowing me to gain firsthand knowledge within the dynamic world of sports and business.

During this learning block, my day usually begins at the Wanderers’ state-of-the-art training facility, where I have the privilege of observing professional training sessions. Under the guidance of seasoned coaching staff, I analyse training techniques and tactical approaches.

These immersive observations have provided me with the opportunity to develop my understanding of the intricacies and intensity that characterise elite-level sports training, fuelling my passion for excellence and fostering a newfound appreciation for the dedication and skill required to succeed at the highest level, and the detail that goes into planning and facilitating elite level training sessions.

Following the training session, the class heads back to the Fives facility, a dedicated learning space, for classroom sessions. Led by our teacher, Yianni, these sessions delve into various aspects of sport and business, including marketing strategies, sponsorship management, event coordination, and coaching. Through interactive discussions and learning activities, this has helped me to acquire practical insights and develop a comprehensive understanding of the sports industry’s multifaceted landscape.

Throughout the semester, our class has the privilege of attending workshops led by experienced staff members from the Western Sydney Wanderers.

These engaging sessions cover a diverse range of topics essential to the sports industry. We delve into the world of sponsorship and fundraising, learning effective strategies to secure partnerships and support for the club’s initiatives. We also gain insights into the intricacies of event management, understanding the behind-the-scenes coordination required to execute successful sporting events.

Exploring matchday operations, we uncover the intricate logistics that ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for fans. These workshops also emphasise the club’s core values and strategic direction, providing us with a comprehensive understanding of how they shape the organisation’s decisions and actions..

Additionally, we have had the opportunity to engage in collaborative projects that align with the strategic goals of the club. Working closely with the Wanderers’ professionals, we have planned and executed initiatives that foster community engagement and support social causes.

This practical experience allows us to apply our knowledge, enhance our project management skills, and contribute meaningfully to the club’s mission.

It’s been an exciting and jam-packed semester for me as an aspiring professional, and I am very much looking forward to the next semester and the experiences and opportunities that lie ahead.
