Sermanni to head to India for Elite Camp

Wanderers Head of Women’s Football Tom Sermanni and a group of international coaches will head to Kolkata in India next week for a special elite camp.

Sermanni, alongside coaches from Scotland’s Rangers Women’s, Spain’s Marbella FC, Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb and Australia’s Melbourne City will be part of the Elite Camp organised by Women in Sports.

The coaches will be watching and analysing some of India’s best female players over practice sessions from June 6 to 11, making the first-ever open women’s football trials in India.

Founder of Women in Sports Sanaya Mehta said the camp was an exciting opportunity for young footballers in India.

“This camp will give women’s football an opportunity which has not been provided before,” said Mehta.

“Rather than funding a couple of women footballers for trials (abroad), we thought it was best to invite foreign coaches here and get them to see India’s best players together.

“We have got fantastic response from coaches across the world. So many girls are coming (for trials). It’s the first time we are organising something like this.

“We will learn from this experience. Hopefully, some girls will join foreign clubs and then give something back to the game.”
