The Hon Gabrielle Upton FAICD joins Wanderers Foundation Development Committee

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today announced that The Hon Gabrielle Upton FAICD has joined the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee.

The Wanderers Foundation was established in 2020 and is the Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s charitable arm, focusing on making a positive impact on the community through a range of football-driven initiatives.

In 2023, the very first Wanderers Foundation Development Committee was founded to help shape program strategy and expand on the amazing group of donors.

The Wanderers Foundation is proud to announce that Gabrielle has now joined the Committee and brings with her over 30 years combined experience as a lawyer, banker, government minister and university Deputy Chancellor.

Gabrielle serves as a Non-executive Director of The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Netball Australia. She is a Strategic Advisor at King Wood Mallesons and Proto Axiom, a medical biotechnology investment incubator, and an Advisory Board Member of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum Biotechnology.

From 2011 to 2023, Gabrielle served in senior NSW Government roles including as the first female NSW Attorney General, Minister for the Environment, Local Government and Heritage, Minister for Family and Community Services and Minister for Sport and Recreation.

Gabrielle was Deputy Chancellor of the University of New South Wales and Deputy Chair of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Australia.

Western Sydney Wanderers Chairman Paul Lederer welcomed Gabrielle to the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee.

“We are very honoured to have Gabrielle join the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee alongside some of our industry leaders,” said Lederer.

“Gabrielle will have a profound impact in helping us shape the future of the Foundation and the programs that we run in the Western Sydney region.”

Gabrielle said she was delighted to be joining the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee.

“I am joining a group of industry leaders and the Wanderers community to help drive change through football-led initiatives in the Western Sydney region,” said Upton.

“As a former Sports Minister I know that sport can be a vehicle to also build community. I am excited to help guide the Wanderer’s future strategies as well as raise awareness of the important work they do across our community.”

The appointment of Gabrielle to the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee will see her work alongside current Committee members Executive Director of Business NSW David Harding, Managing Director of Transaction Banking at ANZ Banking Group Lisa Vasic, Executive Director of Business Western Sydney David Borger, Co-Founder of Larapinta Connect Andy Cornish and LGT Crestone Senior Partner Leigh Birtles.
