Thomas commits to Wanderers

Western Sydney Wanderers FC are very proud to announce that club captain Lawrence Thomas has re-signed with the Red & Black for a further two seasons.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who has been a standout performer since joining the club in 2022, will remain in Western Sydney until at least the end of the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

A proud Western Sydney local, Thomas hails from Toongabbie and played his junior football with Marconi Stallions, Blacktown City Demons, and the Australian Institute of Sport before beginning his senior career at Bankstown City. His journey through the region’s football heartland has made him a passionate representative of the Red & Black both on and off the pitch.

Since arriving at the Wanderers, Thomas has made over 70 domestic appearances and was recognised as the best goalkeeper in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s competition in the 2022/23 season.

Appointed club captain ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, the shot-stopper has become a vital figure in the team’s push for success, setting the standard with his leadership and professionalism.

Head coach Alen Stajcic said that the re-signing of Lawrence was a statement for the future.

“Lawrence’s re-signing is a clear statement on the direction we want to go as a football club,” said Alen.

“A local Western Sydney boy that has shown not only outstanding ability as a footballer, but more importantly as a leader showing loyalty, passion, humility and care for our club and community.

“Without question, Lawrence is one of the best leaders I have seen in Australian football in the modern era, and I am sure he will lead the club to a brilliant and successful era.”

Thomas said it was an honour to continue his journey with the Wanderers.

“It means everything to me to wear the armband and represent this club,” said Thomas.

“Western Sydney is home, and I’m incredibly grateful to be able to play in front of family, friends, and the passionate Red & Black supporters.

“To be given the opportunity to stay for another two years is something I don’t take for granted. I’ve loved every moment of my time here — the people, the culture, the fans — and I genuinely believe we’re building something special.

“I’m proud to be part of this next chapter and excited to help drive the team forward both on and off the pitch.”

Lawrence Thomas and the Wanderers will be in action on Sunday afternoon at CommBank Stadium. You can get your tickets via Ticketek.
