Tony Popovic’s top five achievements


We take a look at former head coach Tony Popovic’s five greatest achievements during his five-year tenure at the Western Sydney Wanderers.

1. Named head coach of the club, 17 May 2012

The Wanderers may not have had a name but Popovic was taking charge of a club that was about to cause a stir in Australian football.


2. Winning the Premiers Plate, 29 March 2013

Popovic and the Wanderers sealed a remarkable first place finish with a 3-0 win against the Jets in Newcastle. 


3. Winning the AFC Champions League, 1 November 2014

4. FIFA Club World Cup appearance, December 2014

The Wanderers represented Australian football on the big stage in Morocco, becoming the first Hyundai A-League team to take part in the tournament.

It might have been a heartbreaking result but the match marked Popovic and the Wanderers’ third time in the big dance in four years.
