Speaking after returning to Sydney after Sunday-s 4-2 thrashing of the Reds, Topor-Stanley said the Ethiopian-born Dutchman was a huge asset to the Club.
Hersi scored two goals and set up another as the Wanderers raced to a 3-0 lead at Hindmarsh Stadium early in the second half. His form has everyone in football talking.
“He deserves the attention, the limelight and the accolades,” Topor-Stanley said. “
He was wonderful for us last night and he is a big asset to our squad.”
Coach Tony Popovic said Hersi was fantastic but so were several other Wanderers.
“You have not seen the best of him yet,” Popovic said.
“Before he came to us he only had a handful of games and he is getting better and there is more to come.”
Topor-Stanley also had another fantastic game and is the leading defender in the Hyundai A-League in form and on the statistics sheets.
As a member of one of the stingiest defences in the league, he was not happy about the team letting the Reds score two goals.
“Definitely we are happy with the three points but performance-wise I thought we are capable of better,” Topor-Stanley said.
“However it is a good sign that even if we did not play at our best we still managed to put four into the back of the net.”
The win saw the Wanderers cement third place and win four games in a row.
“It is unchartered territory for us and we have previously won three in a row,” he said.
“Now we challenge ourselves to keep the streak going.”
The Wanderers play the Newcastle Jets at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday night.
“It will be good to be out in the regional areas and hopefully we can get a good crowd,” he said.
