Young attacking midfielder Rocky Visconte has signed with the NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers on a short-term contract, it was announced today.

Visconte, 22, will begin training with the Wanderers squad tomorrow after being released by Brisbane Roar on Tuesday.

Coach Tony Popovic said he was pleased to bring Visconte into the Wanderers and bolster the depth of his squad.

“Rocky is a good young player, and he is very hungry and ambitious and we are very pleased to have him to add to our attacking options in the squad,” Popovic said.

“He has not had a lot of match time at the Roar, and we will take the next week or so to work with him and see exactly where he is at.

“We are looking forward to having him with us and we will be working hard together to bring the best out of him.”

Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman said he welcomed Visconte into the Wanderers squad which now numbered 22.

“Rocky is a very talented player and brings experience, speed and depth to the Club-s midfield attack,” Gorman said.

“He is also a very good character and will be a good fit into our culture and our club.”

Visconte said he was looking forward to making an impact at the Wanderers.

“I have seen and heard that there is something very special happening out here at Western Sydney and I am very happy to join the club,” Visconte said.

“This club is sitting in the top four so it is obviously doing something very positive, and I want to take the next three months and show what I have got.

“Tony and Ante (Milicic), and the coaching staff have shown faith in me and I am determined to show them what I can bring for the future.”

The former Australian under 23 representative has not started for the Roar this season.

Between 2010 and 2012, the South Australian junior made 24 appearances for the Roar, scoring two goals.

In 2006, Visconte signed for Hearts with local Australian Ryan McGowan on a three-year-contract after impressing on trial.

He made his debut for the club in 2010 v Aberdeen starting in the 4th Round of the Scottish Cup.

Not long after he was loaned out to 2nd Division Ayr United in search for more game time.

A few months later he turned down a new Hearts contract and returned to Australia to play in the A-League for Brisbane Roar.

Visconte-s contribution to the 2011 Grand Final saw him etched into Roar history as he played a key role in the lead-up to the corner which saw Erik Paartalu score a late extra time equaliser. Brisbane finished winners over Central Coast Mariners.
