The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers finished their run of four home matches with a 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar.
It was a fantastic showing by the fans who braved a terrifying electrical storm before the match to post a midweek crowd of more than 10,000.
The game itself seemed to be the opposite of Saturday’s Sydney Derby as a sluggish first half was in contrast to a second half filled with chances.
The match was possibly summarised best by the final five minutes where the fleet-footed Nikita Rukavytsya created two brilliant opportunities in the box only for his shots to go straight to the keeper and hit the crossbar respectively.
As with the previous Wanderers matches this season the chances and creativity is there, just lacking the finishing touch and while losses and missed opportunities is frustrating for fans and players alike there remains a feeling that the team is not far away from becoming a winning unit.
With 14 chances created the Red & Black are still creating enough opportunity to win two matches but have yet to discover a killing edge to get them across the line.
A fifth minute penalty was enough for Brisbane Roar as the defending Champions moved into the top six.
Wanderers play Adelaide United this Saturday at 7:30pm live on Fox Sports 505 before heading to Morocco for the FIFA Club World Cup and a date with Mexican side Cruz Azul.
