Western Sydney Wanderers FC are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Sofia Sakalis ahead of the upcoming Ninja A-League season.
Sakalis joins the Wanderers with significant experience in the competition, having represented Melbourne City, Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory across her A-League Women career.
The midfielder made her competition debut for Melbourne City at just 15 years of age and has since developed into an accomplished attacking player with more than 65 A-League Women appearances.
After four seasons with City, Sakalis joined Perth Glory ahead of the 2021/22 campaign and went on to make 49 appearances for the club before returning to Victoria with Melbourne Victory in 2024.
Renowned for her technical quality, vision and ability to operate between the lines, Sakalis has also enjoyed considerable success in the NPL Women’s competition in Victoria.
She has made more than 120 senior NPL appearances across FV Academy, South Melbourne and Box Hill United and was recognised with Football Victoria’s Gold Medal Award as the competition’s best player in 2022.
Sakalis also boasts an extensive representative pedigree, having represented Australia at Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 level. She scored 12 goals in eight appearances for the Junior Matildas and has remained involved in Australia’s national youth pathways throughout her career.
Western Sydney Wanderers Ninja A-League head coach Geoff Abrahams said Sakalis would add experience and creativity to the Wanderers midfield.
“Sofia brings a really strong level of experience to the group and has been playing at this level from a very young age,” said Abrahams.
“She is technically very good, sees the game well and has the ability to create opportunities and unlock teams in the attacking areas.
“She also understands the demands of the Ninja A-League and we’re excited about the quality and competition she will add to our midfield this season.”
Sakalis will now link up with the Wanderers squad ahead of the upcoming Ninja A-League campaign.
