Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the signings of promising young goalkeepers Sofia Fante and Charlotte Church for the upcoming 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season.
The additions further strengthen the Wanderers’ goalkeeping department, bringing together two emerging Australian talents with experience across the Ninja A-League Women and National Premier Leagues pathways.
18-year-old Fante joins the Red & Black following a season with Sydney FC, where she was part of the club’s senior Ninja A-League Women squad during the 2025/26 campaign.
The talented shot-stopper was named among the substitutes on two occasions and has continued to build her reputation as a promising young goalkeeper.
Fante has also earned recognition at international youth level, having been involved in training squads for the CommBank Junior Matildas.
She will be joined by fellow young goalkeeper Charlotte Church, who has earned her opportunity with the Wanderers’ Ninja A-League Women squad following an impressive campaign within the club’s Academy.
Church played an important role in the Wanderers’ Under 23 Women’s side that claimed the 2026 NPL NSW Championship, culminating in a dramatic Grand Final victory over Illawarra Stingrays.
The Red & Black prevailed 4-3 in a penalty shootout after the sides remained locked at 1-1 following extra time, with Church part of a memorable triumph for the club’s women’s pathway.
Her progression into the senior squad represents another positive step for the Wanderers’ Academy, reinforcing the club’s commitment to providing opportunities for emerging talent.
Wanderers Ninja A-League Women Head Coach Geoff Abrahams said the double signing was an exciting addition to the squad ahead of the new campaign.
“We’re really pleased to welcome Sofia and Charlotte into our goalkeeping group. They’re two exciting young goalkeepers who have shown plenty of potential, and we’re looking forward to helping them take the next steps in their development,” said Abrahams.
“Sofia has already experienced a professional environment and has built a strong foundation through her time in a senior A-League environment and involvement with national youth teams. She’s ambitious, eager to learn and has all the attributes to continue developing at this level.
“Charlotte is a fantastic example of the pathway we’re building here at the Wanderers. She’s earned this opportunity through her performances in our Academy, and being part of a Championship-winning team is a great experience to bring into the senior environment.
“Both players will bring competition and enthusiasm to our goalkeeping department, and we’re excited to see them continue to grow in the Red & Black.”
The Wanderers will kick off their 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women campaign this Saturday 17 October when they face Melbourne Victory at Wanderers Football Park.
