Wanderers confirm Cleur’s departure to pursue further study

Western Sydney Wanderers FC can confirm that defender Gab Cleur will depart the club as he steps away from professional football to further pursue his education and focus on his future career as a psychologist, alongside prioritising family life. 

Cleur joined the Wanderers in 2022, quickly becoming a valued member of the squad. Over his time at the Red & Black, he made 60 appearances across the Isuzu UTE A-League competition contributing with his work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to the club’s values.

The club thanks Cleur for his dedication during his time in Western Sydney and wishes him every success as he embarks on the next chapter.

Western Sydney Wanderers CEO Scott Hudson said the club fully supports Gab’s decision.

“Gab has shown great maturity in making a decision that prioritises his long-term future,” said Hudson.

“Not every football journey follows the same path, and we respect Gab’s choice to focus on his education and family while reflecting positively on the time he spent with our club. He represented the Wanderers with professionalism and dedication, and we thank him for his contribution to the Red & Black.” 

Isuzu UTE A-League head coach Alen Stajcic acknowledged Gab’s time at the club.

“In the last 18 months Gab has been a fantastic contributor to our team, demonstrating high levels of intense constant effort, discipline and hard work,” said Stajcic.

“Gab is a wonderful human being, and I wish him and his family all the best in his future”

Gab Cleur thanked the club and community for their support.

“As a Western Sydney boy, I am honoured and proud to have been given the opportunity to play for my club,” said Cleur. 

“The Western Sydney Wanderers will always be special to me in my heart. I am blessed to have worked with so many incredible people – players, coaching staff, and office staff alike, and I will cherish the many memories I have made alongside everyone at the club.

“I am thankful to God for the time I have spent here, and I wish everyone all the best for the future.

“This was a carefully considered decision to focus on my future as a psychologist and prioritise family life.”
