Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed their Football NSW League One Men’s squad for the upcoming season.
Taking the reins of the Wanderers first grade squad this season will be head coach Tomi Vidovic.
Vidovic returns to the Wanderers for his fourth season in the Academy, having had recent stints at powerhouse club Sydney United as both assistant and head coach.
Working his way up through the senior coaching ranks at the Wanderers Academy, Vidovic had previously coached the club’s U18s side and assisted the Youth-League squad.
Vidovic will be assisted by Peter Kofinas and Geoff Abrahams.
The Wanderers will open their League One season this Saturday night when they host NWS Spirit at Wanderers Football Park.
Wanderers Academy Techincal Director Ian Crook said he was proud to have Vidovic back at the Wanderers.
“We are delighted to have Tomi back. We didn’t want to lose him in the first place, but realised it was important for his development as a coach,” said Crook.
“We are all really happy to have him back in, looking after what will hopefully be the next generation of Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s players.”
Vidovic said he was proud to fulfil the objectives of the Wanderers Academy.
“The objective of the Wanderers Academy is to develop players for the first team. That’s always been the primary objective, to improve every single player that comes through here,” said Vidovic.
“At the same time, we want to win every single game that we play. We don’t think that those two things should be separate or mutually exclusive.
“We’re looking forward to competing really well, instilling a winning mentality in all the players and developing every single player that comes through.
“I stress that it is a continual journey for them. It’s a journey that is ongoing and it’s not just about Round 1 and preparing for the game (against NWS Spirit). It’s about improving every single training session, improving every single game and that’s our objective as coaches and as a club.”
