The Western Sydney Wanderers have today confirmed their Foxtel Y-League squad for the upcoming season.

The Wanderers will be looking to have another strong campaign in the national competition having been crowned Champions last season after topping the Conference B table and defeating Melbourne City in the Grand Final.

12 out of the 18 players named in the squad hail from the Western Sydney region with many of these Academy players already having stints experiencing training with the Hyundai A-League team.

Wanderers Foxtel Y-League head coach Arthur Diles believes the competition is important for selected Wanderers Academy players to continue their development and pathway to the first team.

“The goal is to always continue to produce more players for the first team if that includes winning the Foxtel Y-League then that’s a bonus,” explained Diles.

“The Foxtel Y-League is very important to the Wanderers Academy as the young players who aren’t yet involved with the first team need these games to stay fit, get minutes and develop.

“The younger players need this competition as well because it’s currently the only competition that is nationally recognised.”

The Western Sydney Wanderers Foxtel Y-League team will kick off their season this Saturday night when they take on Canberra United Youth at Deakin Stadium. Kick-off is at 6:30pm.
