The Red & Black dictated terms on the road, settling into their 4-2-3-1 and holding the ball for long stretches, yet Macarthur goalkeeper Alexander Robinson stood in the way every time the visitors looked to break the deadlock.
At the other end, Lawrence Thomas and the back four remained organised and disciplined to keep the hosts out, ensuring Ufuk Talay’s side came away with a hard-fought point that could so easily have been three.

- The Wanderers controlled the contest with 61.7 per cent possession and 16 attempts to Macarthur’s seven.
- Robinson made five saves for Macarthur to deny the Red & Black, who put six efforts on target.

First half
The Wanderers settled quickly in Campbelltown and threatened inside the opening two minutes, with Miguel Di Pizio releasing Liam Gillion through the middle, only for his right-footed effort from the centre of the box to be kept out low to the bottom left by Alexander Robinson. Angus Thurgate then tried his luck from distance, sending a right-footed strike high and wide of the right post.
Apostolos Stamatelopoulos was shown a yellow card for a bad foul in the seventh minute as the hosts struggled to get a foothold, and the Red & Black came agonisingly close in the 10th minute when Di Pizio’s left-footed effort from outside the box, following a Nicolas Milanović corner, struck the left post.
The hosts carved out a couple of sights of goal around the 22nd minute, with Connor Pain’s right-footed shot blocked by Nathan Barrie before Nathan Paull’s left-footed effort from the left side of the box went just a bit too high. The Wanderers remained composed and organised, quickly regaining their rhythm on the ball.
Brandon Borrello went close in the 32nd minute, heading a Gillion cross from the centre of the box towards the bottom right corner, only for Robinson to save. Paull was booked for a foul in the 35th minute, Gillion tested the keeper again two minutes later with a left-footed shot from a difficult angle on the left, and Barrie produced another vital block to deny Dean Bosnjak at the other end.
The Wanderers finished the half on the front foot with a flurry of efforts in stoppage time. Milanović’s header, a Di Pizio shot and attempts from Thurgate and Borrello were all blocked, Robinson then saved from Milanović, and Barrie sent a header from very close range high and wide as the sides went in level at 0-0.
Second half
The Wanderers came out on the front foot after the restart, with Brandon Borrello sending a right-footed effort from outside the box high and wide to the right in the 51st minute after Panashe Madanha helped launch a fast break. Macarthur made the first change of the half in the 53rd minute, with Ben Gibson replacing Dean Bosnjak.
Ufuk Talay responded with a statement of attacking intent in the 54th minute, introducing Atiya Waraga in place of Liam Gillion and Aydan Hammond in place of Borrello. Macarthur answered with a double change of their own in the 60th minute, bringing on Ryan Fraser and Musa TourĂ©, and the hosts briefly threatened from a corner two minutes later. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos headed to the left of goal before Gibson’s right-footed effort missed to the right.
The intensity rose and Dylan Scicluna was shown a yellow card in the 66th minute for a foul. Lawrence Thomas then stood tall a minute later, keeping out Dylan Rose’s left-footed shot from the left side of the box with a save in the top left corner.
The Red & Black continued to press in search of a winner, with Hiroshi Ibusuki replacing the injured Nicolas Milanović in the 71st minute. Waraga sent a left-footed effort from the centre of the box high and wide to the right in the 73rd minute, before Scicluna tried his luck from distance, only for his left-footed strike to sail high and wide to the left.
TourĂ© went into the book for a foul in the 79th minute, and Thomas was called upon again a minute later to turn away Stamatelopoulos’s header from a Fraser cross. Macarthur replaced Stamatelopoulos with Zane Helweh in the 83rd minute before the Wanderers sent Marcus Savic on for Jarrod Carluccio in the 86th, and Miguel Di Pizio’s left-footed shot from outside the box missed to the left two minutes later. With three minutes of added time announced, Hammond tested Alexander Robinson from distance with a right-footed effort that the goalkeeper saved low to his right as the match finished 0-0.

Full time
The Wanderers left Campbelltown Sports Stadium with a point and a clean sheet, a goalless draw that reflected a performance of control from the Red & Black even if the finishing never matched it. Lawrence Thomas and the back four of Jarrod Carluccio, Nathan Barrie, Germán Ferreyra and Panashe Madanha stood tall to keep Macarthur at bay, while at the other end Alexander Robinson’s five saves kept Ufuk Talay’s side out. The numbers tell the story of the afternoon: the Wanderers held 61.7 per cent of possession, completing 383 accurate passes from 488 attempts against Macarthur’s 192 from 287, and had 16 shots to seven, with six on target to two. Robinson’s five saves were set against two for Thomas, a gap that shows how much of the play was driven by the visitors, and the Red & Black faithful will feel the performance deserved more.

The result extends the Wanderers’ unbeaten run to three matches and keeps the head-to-head record in their favour at seven wins to six, with this a fifth draw between the clubs. The resilience, discipline and determination shown at the back, together with the control of the ball through midfield, are positives to carry forward, and the clean sheet away from home underlines the defensive solidity the group has built. The challenge now is to turn that dominance into goals, because the platform was there for the Wanderers throughout in Campbelltown. If the side can maintain this level of control and sharpen the final ball and finish, the Red & Black will be well placed to turn performances like this one into maximum points.
