Two Western Sydney Wanderers players saw action as defending champions China PR secured their spot in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over Uzbekistan in Group B on Friday.
Despite making nine changes from their 2-0 win over Bangladesh earlier in the week, China PR controlled the game from the first whistle. Uzbekistan held a low defensive block for much of the match, limiting clear chances in the opening stages.
The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when Shao Ziqin converted a penalty after being pulled down by Kholida Dadaboeva. China doubled their lead six minutes into the second half, with Li Qingtong finishing off a swift counter-attack, and sealed the win in the 77th minute as Qingtong nodded in Zhang Xin’s precise delivery.
For Wanderers fans, the match was particularly notable as Wang Ying and Yuan Cong made their tournament debuts, coming off the bench in the second half. While on the field for a brief spell, both players got a taste of continental football as China maintained their dominant performance.
China PR will now face DPR Korea on Monday to decide the Group B winners, with Ying and Cong ready to feature again if called upon.
