The Western Sydney Wanderers will look to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this Westfield W-League season when they take on the Newcastle Jets on Monday afternoon at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Fresh from last week’s stunning 2-1 triumph over reigning champions Melbourne City, the Wanderers are now seeking their third win of the season as they shoot for a finals berth.
With six games remaining, the Red & Black sit in seventh place, just five points shy of Sydney FC in fourth place, and know that a win against the Jets will provide a massive boost to their finals aspirations.
In what’s shaping up to be a cracking contest, the Jets find themselves in a similar position to the Wanderers, with only goal difference separating the two sides in the standings.
Though Wanderers coach Rich Byrne will be quietly confident that his humming side can grab a result against a Jets outfit that is now winless in its last three matches.
The Wander Women will look to American star Kendall Fletcher for inspiration following her match-winning brace against Melbourne City last week.
Fletcher was imperious in midfield, marshalling the defensive structure and jumpstarting attacks, linking up well with countrywomen Paige Nielsen and Katie Stengel.
Monday’s game is the first in a busy holiday period for the Wanderers, who after taking on the Jets will then host the Sydney Derby on Friday 30 December at Popondetta Park.
Kick-off for that match is 7:00pm, with Members and also kids under 16 receiving free entry.
