The Western Sydney Wanderers’ undefeated start to the NPL 2 season continued after an entertaining 2-2 draw with Marconi Stallions on Saturday night at Marconi Stadium.
The Wanderers would have felt they could have got more out of the game having led twice during the contest but were forced to settle for a point after a valiant Marconi fight-back.
The Red & Black scored the opener when Emmanuel Gonzalez slotted home from outside the area after Stallions’ keeper Nenad Vekic was caught out from a ball in behind the defence.
The Stallions were pressuring with their direct brand of football and found an equaliser after the break when Judah Cleur tapped home a rebound in the box.
The Wanderers were not deterred though and retook the lead soon after when Oliver Pufflet latched onto a Tariq Maia ball and fired home from a sharp angle.
Marconi again responded when Sean Rooney tucked away a loose ball from a corner to bring the scores level at 2-2.
Neither side could find a winner in what was an entertaining finish, with both sides keeping their undefeated starts to the season intact.
The Wanderers now sit in fourth place and will look to rediscover their winning touch wen they take on league-leaders Blacktown Spartans on Saturday night at Sydney United Sports Centre.
