The Wanderers Academy U14s squad recently travelled to Germany to compete in the Bayreuth Cup.
The U14s side also played in two friendly matches against Bayern Munich and Sparta Prague in preparation for the tournament.
The tournament in Germany saw teams SpVgg Bayreuth, SonderjyskE, Bayern Munich FC, Hertha BSC Berlin, FC Union Berlin, ZKS Stal Rzeszow, FC Viktoria Pilsen, Aston Villa and MjondalenIF compete over two days.
The Wanderers squad fought gallantly and came 8th overall in the tournament.
From Wanderers U14s head coach Ante Markovic:
“The Boys went really well on the global stage, performing really well and causing a lot of upsets to powerhouse teams.
“The boys took away a lot from the tour, understanding the level of European football compared to Australia, the discipline level for professional footballers and to never get complacent. I’m proud of each player and how humble they were throughout the entire trip.”
From Wanderers Academy Administrator Adrian Talevski:
“The trip was such a great experience for everyone involved to see how other teams in Europe operate and of course to see how our boys compete against some of the top European academies.
“This was the clubs first time since pre-Covid that we have taken a team overseas and hopefully we can build from this and look to take a different age group each year.
“The tournament was well organised and we were privileged to be involved. We want to thank Bayreuth for this opportunity and Dusan for helping put this together for us.”
