Wanderers secure Cerne for upcoming Ninja A-League season

Western Sydney Wanderers FC are excited to announce the signing of Alana Cerne ahead of the 2025/26 Ninja A-League Women’s season.

Cerne joins the Wanderers as a versatile defender with a track record of success and a hunger to compete at the highest level. Growing up in Melbourne’s west, Cerne developed through Calder United’s senior ranks, shining in their treble-winning 2022 season and earning the NPL 1 Victoria Media Player of the Year Award.

In the Ninja A-League, Cerne was part of Western United’s squad since inception, helping shape the club’s early journey in the domestic women’s competition.

Although much of her early success came as a midfielder, Cerne is naturally a centre back and brings quality, versatility, and a fierce competitive edge to the Wanderers. Known for her powerful ball striking and exceptional range of passing, Cerne is set to make an immediate impact at the Red & Black.

Cerne arrives in Western Sydney fresh off international success. At the 2025 ASEAN Women’s Championship in Vietnam, she featured for the Australian U23 squad where she helped keep clean sheets in wins over the Philippines and Timor Leste.

The team went on to claim the title over Myanmar, highlighting Cerne’s defensive prowess on the international stage.

Cerne said she was ready to help unlock success at the Wanderers.

“This club has all the right foundations for success,” said Cerne.

“The hunger for championships and the winning mentality that this club has is something that every team will feel this season. I’m hoping to bring what I’ve got in my locker to help unlock success and build with a team that is so highly motivated to be the best.

“Joining this football family is something I’m so excited about. On this new chapter, I can’t wait to see the passion and support shown to this amazing team.

“Get behind us and continue to show the love that definitely doesn’t go unnoticed.”

Western Sydney Wanderers Ninja A-League head coach said Cerne was a perfect fit for the Wanderers.

“Alana is a highly talented player who brings a winning mentality and elite-level experience to our team,” said Abrahams.”

Her development pathway, combined with her competitiveness and skill set, makes her a perfect fit for our culture and ambitions this season.”

Cerne and the Wanderers will kick off their Ninja A-League campaign this Friday night against Perth Glory at Wanderers Football Park.
