Wanderers secure rising star Talia Younis

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have confirmed the signing of rising star Talia Younis for the upcoming Liberty A-Leagues season.

The youngster has been training with the Wanderers Academy boys squads for the last four seasons and will now be part of the Liberty A-Leagues set-up for the very first time.

A regular in the Australian national team, Younis was recently named in the CommBank Junior Matildas squad selected for the Korea Republic International Series.

The talented midfielder is set to play in her first season of the Liberty A-Leagues and thanked her family for helping inspire her to play football.

“I had a meeting with Kat (head coach Kat Smith) and I was so excited when she said I had a scholarship. I was very shocked, excited and certainly very nervous,” said Younis.

“I’ve been at Wanderers for the last four years, I started in the U13s squad and after trialling three times I had made the boys NPL 1 team. It was quite challenging and it challenged my physicality and how fast I had to think on and off the ball.

“I’d like to thank my family, especially my parents and my brothers, they have pushed me and inspired me to play my best football.”

Head coach Kat Smith praised the qualities Talia possesses at a young age.

“Widely regarded as one of the most talented prospects, she possesses natural abilities as a midfielder; Talia has the potential to significantly impact the senior team in the near future,” said Smith.

“Talia is your prototypical modern midfielder, which you hope to achieve when providing a rich environment for a player.

“It is a huge credit to the Academy Program Staff, who work tirelessly to cultivate this pathway for our local talent.

“With ongoing investment and continuation of our programs, such as the Future Wander Women program, there is huge excitement for what is to come.”
