Wanderers Shine in Sapphire Cup with Dominant 10-1 Victory

The Western Sydney Wanderers Girls Academy side has progressed to the next round of the Sapphire Cup in emphatic fashion, recording a commanding 10-1 win over Dunbar Rovers on Wednesday night.

The Round 3 fixture showcased the depth and attacking firepower of the Wanderers squad, with Olivia Vanderlaan leading the charge by netting an incredible five goals in a standout performance.

Joining Vanderlaan on the scoresheet were Ava D’Costa, Miriam Zumaya, Christa Oliva, Alyssa McKenzie, and Brooklyn Hudson, as the Wanderers maintained relentless pressure throughout the match.

It was also a historic night for the club, with 14-year-old Frida Karaberis making her debut in the senior side – a testament to the development pathway and opportunities available for young talent within the Wanderers Academy system.

The Sapphire Cup, NSW’s premier knockout competition for women’s clubs, mirrors the men’s Waratah Cup and celebrates the state’s rich football history – drawing its name from the former NSW Sapphires, pioneers of the Women’s National Soccer League.

With this result, the Wanderers Academy continues its strong run in the tournament, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting Cup campaign.
