Wanderers sign midfielder Estelle Fragale

Western Sydney Wanderers FC are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Estelle Fragale on a one-year deal for the upcoming Ninja A-League season.

The 22-year-old joins the Wanderers following an impressive spell with APIA Leichhardt FC, where she has established herself as one of the standout midfielders in the NPL Women’s NSW competition.

Primarily operating as a defensive midfielder, Fragale has become known for her work rate, ball-winning ability and composure in possession since joining APIA in 2022.

A key figure in APIA’s midfield, Fragale has played an important role in the club’s rise into one of the strongest sides in the competition, with Football NSW previously describing her as a “consistent engine” for the team.

Her tenacity and competitive approach have also earned her the nickname the “Gennaro Gattuso of the NPL Women’s NSW competition”, a comparison particularly fitting given Fragale’s proud Italian heritage.

Western Sydney Wanderers Ninja A-League head coach Geoff Abrahams said Fragale had earned her opportunity at the professional level through her performances and consistency.

“Estelle is a player who has really stood out through what she has been able to produce consistently at NPL level,” said Abrahams.

“She has a fantastic work ethic, competes for everything and brings the type of intensity we want in our midfield, while also being composed and confident in possession.

“She has worked extremely hard for this opportunity and we’re excited to see her take that next step with the Wanderers.”

Estelle said she was excited to take the next step in her professional journey.

“I am really excited to join the Wanderers and take that next step. I’ve played NPL with APIA Leichhardt for a number of years and I feel ready to challenge myself in the A-Leagues. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team in a professional environment,” said Fragale.

“I am looking forward to challenging myself and becoming more confident and consistent. Most definitely ensuring I make the most of this opportunity and contribute to the team’s success.

“I’m a defensive midfielder. I’m quite hardworking and always aim to do the dirty work for my team. I like to be involved in the game, break up play and help my team move forward. I bring a lot of energy and commitment for my team always!”

Fragale will link up with the Wanderers squad when they commence their pre-season preparations.
