Western Sydney Wanderers FC are delighted to announce the signing of Norwegian defender Silje Bjørneboe on loan from Stabæk Fotball Kvinner.
The 26-year-old right-back arrives in Western Sydney with significant experience in Norwegian football, having spent almost a decade with Stabæk after joining the club in August 2017.
Bjørneboe recently reached an impressive milestone of 200 appearances across all competitions for Stabæk, becoming just the fifth player in the club’s history to achieve the feat.
She had previously become the youngest player in Stabæk history to reach 100 official appearances, achieving the milestone at just 22 years of age.
A composed and experienced defender, Bjørneboe has also represented Norway throughout the youth international pathway at U15, U16, U17 and U19 level.
She was part of the Norwegian side that claimed bronze at the 2017 UEFA Women’s Under-17 European Championship and later represented her country at the 2019 UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship.
Western Sydney Wanderers Ninja A-League head coach Geoff Abrahams said Bjørneboe would bring an important combination of experience, consistency and quality to the squad.
“Silje has accumulated an incredible amount of experience for a player who is still only 26 and that was something that immediately stood out to us,” said Abrahams.
“To play more than 200 games for one club speaks volumes about her consistency, professionalism and understanding of the game.
“She is a strong one-on-one defender, is comfortable in possession and gives us another composed and experienced option across our defensive line.
“Silje has also played international football through Norway’s youth system, so she understands the standards and expectations of high-performance environments.
“We’re really excited to welcome her to Western Sydney and believe her experience and character will be a fantastic addition to our group.”
Bjørneboe has also enjoyed success with Stabæk, finishing as a Norwegian Women’s Cup silver medallist in 2022 after previously reaching the J19 Norwegian Cup Final in 2018.
The Norwegian defender will now join the Wanderers ahead of the upcoming Ninja A-League season.
