Wanderers sign NPL captain Antonis

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have confirmed the signing of Wanderers National Premier League 1 captain George Antonis on a one-year Isuzu UTE A-League scholarship deal.

Antonis has been part of the Wanderers Academy set-up since its inception in 2015 and has worked his way up from the youth squad to the first team.

An intelligent midfielder and a young leader, Antonis has worn the captain’s armband in several Wanderers Academy squads over the last eight years.

Isuzu UTE A-League head coach Marko Rudan congratulated George on the scholarship deal.

“I would like to congratulate George on earning his scholarship as it has been a long time coming,” said Rudan.

“George has remained loyal to the club over the last eight years and his hard work has begun to pay off. We look forward to seeing him in action this season with our senior team.”

George Antonis said he was ready to make an impact on the A-Leagues team.

“For myself and my family, (the scholarship deal) is a big thing because I have been here for over eight years since the start of the Academy, so to be finally involved in the A-Leagues space is a big deal,” said Antonis.

“It’s been a lot of hard work and sacrifices to get here, it was a long time coming but it’s about trusting the process.

“I would like to have an impact on the A-Leagues squad. Whether that is in training or through playing, I just want to have a positive impact to help them reach their goals.”
