Chris Ikonomidis was relieved after Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s all-action display overwhelmed Brisbane Roar FC on Saturday night.
The Wanderers won 3-0 with an attacking display of high quality.
Wanderers had almost three times the number of total shots than the Brisbane Roar in this fixture (28 to 10) with Ikonomidis, Oriol Riera and Alvaro Cejudo in the thick of it.
Wanderers looked up for the contest from the start and never looked like losing after Riera’s opener inside four minutes.
The three points mean Wanderers are in the box seat for a spot in the six, with Glory and Roar also in the mix ahead of what should be a thrilling final weekend of home and away football next week.
“We knew how much it meant for the club and the fans; we needed it,”Caltex Socceroo Ikonomidis told Fox Sports.
“It feels good after two losses to come back with a strong win.”
