Wanderers Statement

To all Wanderers members and fans,

We acknowledge and understand the frustration and disappointment that many of you feel around the recent announcement for the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) to host the next three A-League Mens and Womens Grand Finals in Sydney.

As a club who has played many of its biggest matches at away venues, these moments shared by those at the match and back home in our community are cherished and will forever be etched in our memories. No matter where we have played, the Red & Black faithful have always made us feel like we are at home.

However, the commercial reality for football in this country is still precarious. We have just experienced two of the worst years in the history of football due to the impacts of the global pandemic – COVID-19. This unprecedented global event has affected our community as a whole and decimated the livelihood of professional football clubs.

This Grand Final agreement creates a necessary step towards ensuring our game has a sustainable future. The APL Board decision is for the benefit of every club in the League.

We believe our members and fans are the lifeblood of our club and always will be. With that understanding comes a greater responsibility to ensure the long-term viability of the sport we all love so everyone can enjoy it and see it thrive for years to come.
