Western Sydney Wanderers FC are pleased to confirm the signing of defender Sofia Palywoda for the upcoming Ninja A-League season.
Palywoda joins the Wanderers following an impressive campaign with Box Hill United FC, where she captained the side to the Victorian NPL Women’s minor premiership and helped lead the team through to the Grand Final.
Despite her young age, Palywoda has already established herself as a leader at senior level, playing an important role at the heart of the Box Hill defence throughout a season that saw the club finish on top of the table and progress all the way to the competition decider.
The versatile defender has continued to build her experience through the NPL system, demonstrating composure, competitiveness and an ability to perform in high-pressure environments.
Western Sydney Wanderers Ninja A-League head coach Geoff Abrahams said Palywoda’s leadership and development at senior level made her an exciting addition to the squad.
“Sofia has built a really strong foundation through the NPL system and has shown she can perform when the pressure is on,” said Abrahams.
“To captain a team to a minor premiership and Grand Final at such a young age speaks volumes about her character, leadership and the trust that her teammates and coaches have in her.
“She is a versatile defender who competes well, reads the game strongly and has already taken on a lot of responsibility at senior level.
“We’re excited to give her the opportunity to take the next step in her career and see what she can bring to our environment this season.”
Palywoda will now link up with the Wanderers squad ahead of the upcoming Ninja A-League campaign.
