The Western Sydney Wanderers U16s Academy squad has returned from a rewarding international tour of Portugal and Spain, where they took part in a series of high-level matches against some of Europe’s leading youth teams.
The tour kicked off with friendly fixtures against Portuguese giants FC Porto and SC Braga. The Wanderers impressed early, recording a 5-1 win over Porto before narrowly falling 1-0 to Braga in a tightly contested match.
Moving into tournament play, the U16s faced Spanish club Real Betis in their opening match and held their own in a 1-1 draw. They went on to compete against four Spanish Select academy teams, finishing the tournament with two wins, one draw, and one loss.
The experience provided the players with valuable exposure to different styles of football and the demands of international competition. It also offered a unique opportunity to grow as a group, both on and off the field.
Tours like this are an important part of the Wanderers Academy program, helping young players develop their skills and gain a better understanding of the global game.
