Wanderers U20s crowned Champions

A dominant second-half performance has seen the Western Sydney Wanderers Under-20s side claim glory in the FNSW League One Grand Final, defeating the Central Coast Mariners 5-1.

On a cool afternoon at Sydney United Sports Centre, the side scored four second half goals, with the Di Pizio brothers claiming three between them.

Both sides started well as they moved the ball confidently around the pitch; the Wanderers had a couple of chances through Miguel Di Pizio, whilst the Mariners had a goal ruled out for offside in the 25th minute.

The Wanderers would take advantage of that call just a minute later, as Marcus Younis broke down the right, putting a lovely ball across the box for captain Gianni Di Pizio to tap it home.

The Mariners earned a penalty on the cusp of half-time for a foul in the box, and Zac Waddell converted, leaving the scores tied at the break.

Anthony Pavlesic made a great save after a shot from Harry Talbot at the start of the second half, making himself big to deny the winger.

And the Wanderers hit the front in the 53rd minute, with quality build up play from Younis and Thomas Lopez allowing Miguel Di Pizio to drill a shot into the goal from the edge of the area.

Substitute Ayman Gulasi then won a penalty in the 70th minute, with captain Di Pizio dispatching the penalty with ease to give his side a crucial two goal lead.

The Wanderers were flying, and Jakov Malbasa marked his appearance off the bench with a goal in the 77th minute, latching onto a fine ball from Younis and showing composure to finish
past Alexander Parkes.

Gulasi then added the cherry on top of a fine individual and team performance with a goal in the dying embers of the match.
