Wander Women ready for New Years redemption

W-League

The Western Sydney Wanderers Westfield W-League team won’t have to wait too long to atone for their 3-0 loss to arch rivals Sydney FC in their season opener.

Ticket information can be found here.

The Wanderwomen will tackle Newcastle Jets on Saturday night in what will be their second game in four days.

The match will mark the first time the Wanderers will play a Westfield W-League fixture at their Blacktown home base.

The Wanderers had five debutants against the Sky Blues, Bryleeh Henry, Margaux Chauvet, Julie-Ann Russell, Aideen Keane and Isabel Gomez, who will all be using their experiences from the match to their advantage this Saturday.

New recruit Libby Copus-Brown had an impressive performance making 56 touches, 44 passes and plenty of penetrating runs down the middle and linked up well with striker Bryleeh Henry.

The Jets will be a ticky opponent with a young team assembled this season by Ash Wilson. However, with club legend Tara Andrews leading the way with veteran Hannah Brewer, the Jets will be looking to make amends for their wooden spoon last season.

Andrews is set to once again be a threat up front, scoring 35 goals in 93 games for the Jets and more recently recording 13 goals for Manly in the National Premier League Women’s.

In their last meeting at home, Wanderer Amy Harrison’s penalty was the only goal to split to the two sides in what is set to be another tough fixture for the Red & Black.
