The Western Sydney Wanderers Schools Cup kicks-off today with the Nepean Football Association regional qualifiers being played in Penrith.
Open to all schools in Western Sydney, the regional qualifiers will continue through to August with Bankstown, Granville, Blacktown, Southern Districts, Gladesville-Hornsby and Macarthur still to come.
With three divisions on show including High School Boys (Years 7/8), High School Girls (Years 7/8) and Primary School Mixed (Years 5/6), the main focus of the competition is to have a fun and enjoyable experience for staff, referees and students while being able to challenge other schools in Western Sydney.
CEO John Tsatsimas said the continuation of the Wanderers Schools Cup is good for Western Sydney.
“Now in its third year the Wanderers Schools Cup is another chance for our club to give back to the community and help ensure football is accessible to everyone growing up in Western Sydney,” explained Tsatsimas.
“We saw the diversity and talent in our region during the Wanderers Community Asian Cup and now we’re continuing that legacy by giving the opportunity for school-aged children to participate in a similar tournament.
“Football is the lifeblood of so many families in Western Sydney and the Wanderers Schools Cup will help grow a child’s love affair with football while keeping kids healthy, active and engaged.”
