The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers will return to Penrith when they take their Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 clash against Brisbane Roar to Pepper Stadium.

It will be the first match of the 2015/16 season for the Red & Black and will take place on Tuesday 11 August with kick-off at 7:30pm.

For a region with such a rich football history, Penrith and the Nepean has begun to forge a strong history with the Wanderers too in only a few years.

Having hosted two Westfield W-League matches at the venue as well as a pre-season fixture against Adelaide United, the Wanderers brought top flight football back to Penrith for the first time in 29 years when they defeated Wellington Phoenix at the stadium earlier this year.

Nikita Rukavytsya’s 18th minute strike was the first top-flight men’s goal in Penrith since Randell Easthorpe’s finish against Newcastle KB United in 1985.

To continue the historical link, Penrith and Pepper Stadium could witness the Red & Black’s first ever win in the Westfield FFA Cup – Australia’s domestic cup competition.

CEO John Tsatsimas said bringing the game to Pepper Stadium is another win for the Greater West.

“Today’s venue announcement is another opportunity to strengthen our ties with Penrith and the Nepean region,” said Tsatsimas.

“The Nepean region has our second-highest number of Foundation Members and we’ve seen with the attendances at Pepper Stadium for our Hyundai-League, Westfield W-League and pre-season matches that the whole community gets behind the Wanderers.

‘We can’t wait to open our season here in Penrith.”
