Ladder leaders Western Sydney Wanderers are in FNSW League One action on Saturday night, as they play host to Hakoah Sydney City East behind-closed-doors at Wanderers Football Park.
With just four games to go in the season, the Wanderers know that every point is a precious one with promotion and the minor premiership up for grabs.
The boys in Red & Black certainly have momentum going into this one; after dropping points in their previous two games, they swept aside Bonnyrigg in a 4-0 win as Zac Sapsford netted a hat-trick.
Sapsford and Aidan Simmons – another signing from our cross-town rivals – have been shrewd acquisitions that have added real quality to the side, something that could be crucial as there are only two points that separate first and fourth on the table.
And the Wanderers will be bolstered by the return of players who have been missing in action recently due to injury, as Jarrod Carluccio returned to the starting side last week, as well as Jack Warshawsky making the matchday squad for the first time since May.
Their opponents, whilst most likely out of contention for promotion, still harbour an outside chance of making the finals.
Sitting in sixth three points off the finals places, they recorded a 2-1 win over Hills United last weekend, with Anthony Costa and former Wanderer Daniel Alessi getting on the scoresheet.
They also secured credible draws away from home against Central Coast Mariners and NWS Spirit in recent weeks, showing that they have the ability to frustrate a home crowd.
The two sides last met in April, as the Wanderers put Hakoah to the sword in a 5-1 victory.
After going behind early to a deflected Steven Sohn goal, the Wanderers scored five unanswered goals through five different scorers to earn a deserved victory.
