NPL Preview: Wanderers vs St George

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to secure the three points in Saturday night’s tough encounter against St George FC at Sydney United Sports Park.

St George are coached by former Marconi and Sydney United player Terry Palapanis and are undefeated in their last seven games.

Juan Carlos Romero has been prolific for St George this season and is the second highest scorer in the competition with an impressive tally of 18 goals.

Bruno Pivato has also been scoring goals recently for St George. Since returning to the club from Bankstown City in the mid-season transfer window, Pivato has scored seven goals in six games.

Wanderers centre-back Lachlan Campbell returned to the NPL 2 action in last week’s game against Northern Tigers after a brief spell of injury.

The former Football NSW Institute and Hills Brumbies player was initially selected for our U18s side in 2016 and played well enough to become a regular starter in the NPL 2 by the end of the year.

Campbell has been impressive in defence this season and will play an important role as the Wanderers look to secure a home final.

After getting an assist in last week’s game, Wanderers forward Oliver Puflett will also be looking to build on a solid performance.

The pacey attacker is another player that has progressed into the Wanderers NPL 2 side after playing for the U18s last year.

Puflett can play on either wing or as a centre forward and has scored three times this season.

The previous meeting between these two sides resulted in a 5-2 win for the Wanderers, thanks to a double from Kosta Grozos, as well as goals from Oliver Puflett, Mathieu Cordier and Emmanuel Gonzalez.

Entry to the match is FREE for all Wanderers members, while tickets for non-Members are $10 for adults and $5 for concession card holders.
