Outcome of Match Review Panel and other suspensions

On Monday, 12 February 2024, the independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Con Diomis – convened to consider one incident arising out the Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Liberty A-League Women matches played between Friday, 9 February 2024 and Sunday, 11 February 2024, in relation to Jorrit Hendrix (Hendrix) of Western Sydney Wanderers FC.

In addition, Football Australia notes that there were other incidents which arose over the course of the A-Leagues matches outlined above resulting in suspensions, which are also set out below.

Jorrit Hendrix (Western Sydney Wanderers FC)

The independent MRP considered an incident in or around the 90+6th minute of Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s (Wanderers) Isuzu UTE A-League Men match against Newcastle Jets FC on Sunday, 11 February 2024, in which Hendrix received a direct Red Card.

In accordance with the A-Leagues Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations), the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Hendrix was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.

The MRP determined that Hendrix committed the offence of “Serious foul play (e.g. when challenging for the ball)”. The minimum sanction for the offence is one (1) match, being the Mandatory Match Suspension. The MRP confirmed that Hendrix will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the Mandatory Match Suspension, before being available for the Wanderers’ Isuzu UTE A-League Men match against Adelaide United FC on Saturday, 24 February 2024.

In or around the 48th minute of the Wanderers’ Isuzu UTE A-League Men match against Newcastle Jets FC on Sunday, 11 February 2024, Tate Russell (Russell) was issued with an indirect Red Card after receiving a second Yellow Card in the same match. In accordance with the Regulations, as Russell accumulated an indirect Red Card, he is required to serve the Mandatory Match Suspension of one (1) Isuzu UTE A-League Men match and will be ineligible to participate in the Wanderers’ match against Central Coast Mariners FC’s on Sunday, 18 February 2024.
