They will be looking to end a very tough run of form, which has seen them unfortunately slide to the bottom of the table, despite their best efforts in a season that has thrown many challenges their way.

After some positive performances, they were hoping to continue their good run over Western United last Friday, but a very early penalty and a great strike from distance put them on the back foot, and they were never able to recover.

There were bright spots, as Sienna Saveska scored another olimpico goal against the same opponents as in December, notching up her sixth goal of the season, and the game also saw the long-awaited injury return of Maddy McComasky, who had been out since round two with a serious shoulder injury.

It is a massive boost to the defence which has missed her physical presence and talent on the ball for much of the season, and it will be good to see her get more minutes into the legs as the season winds down.

The Wanderers will also hope the likes of Holly Caspers, who has barely played all season, and Paige Hayward will also be nearing returns from long injuries of their own to further boost their playing stocks.

It is just one factor that has impacted how well they can play this season, with a coaching change also making the road for the Wanderers a bumpy one.

Their performances have been better than their points tally suggests, and interim boss Geoff Abrahams is doing a brave job in stepping in to fill in the breach and to mentor an inexperienced side.

Whilst this season has been a tough one results wise, it will be for the better of many of the young players, including the likes of Milly Bennett, Amelia Cassar and Maya Lobo, who have all had a lot of minutes in the first team this season.

Talia Younis has also been an ever-present, and is coming closer to scoring her first ever professional goal.

Their opponents this weekend Brisbane are still in the finals places after a hugely impressive start to the season, but three losses in their last five games has dented their momentum slightly, and made three points more important for them.

They did return to the winners circle last weekend as they secured a tight 1-0 win over the Wellington Phoenix, with Grace Kuilamu scoring the only goal in the second half.

It still represents a massive improvement on last season where they were well out of the finals race.

Their best players have been Matildas stalwart and captain Yallop, as well as Lani Freier, who has seven goals and was called up to the next Matildas squad.
Japanese import Momo Hayashi has also been impressive, chipping in with four goals for the season.

The Wanderers know how dangerous Brisbane are, having fallen to defeat in Unite Round back in November.

In truth, it was a tough night for the Wanderers, who conceded two goals in either half to fall to a 4-0 defeat at Kogarah, and they will be desperate to put things right in front of their own fans at Wanderers Football Park.

The Wanderers did win the last time the Roar visited the venue, taking home the three points thanks to a 3-1 victory; a repeat would be music to the ears of everyone involved at the club.
