NPL 1 Wrap: Wanderers claim bragging rights with six goal demolition of Sydney FC

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 side produced another dominant display in the NPL NSW Men’s competition, dismantling rivals Sydney FC 6-0 at the Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre.

The Western Sydney Wanderers continued their remarkable run of form with a commanding 6-0 victory over Sydney FC on Friday night, producing another ruthless attacking display to secure a league double over their rivals and continue their climb up the NPL NSW Men’s ladder.

After putting five goals past Rockdale Ilinden the previous weekend, the Wanderers showed no signs of slowing down, overwhelming Sydney FC with their intensity, attacking quality and defensive discipline in another statement performance.

The Red and Black set the tone from the opening whistle, forcing an error high up the pitch which allowed Awan Lual tostrike inside the opening minute. It was the perfect start for a side full of confidence and they never looked back.

While Lual’s four-goal haul will understandably dominate the headlines, the performance was built on contributions right across the park. Alaat Abdul-Rahman was a constant threat throughout the evening, repeatedly stretching the Sydney FC defence with his pace and direct running down the wing. Every time the Wanderers looked to break forward, Abdul-Rahman was involved, creating opportunities, dragging defenders out of position and providing an outlet in transition.

His efforts were rewarded in the second half when he got on the scoresheet himself, finishing off a well-worked attacking move after linking up with Lual. It was another influential display from the attacker, whose work rate and energy caused problems for Sydney FC all night.

At the other end of the field, Oscar Morrison was immense in defence. The Wanderers centre-back produced acommanding display, winning his battles in the air, organising those

around him and ensuring the hosts never found any sustained rhythm in attack. Alongside the rest of the defensive unit,he helped secure a second consecutive clean sheet as the Wanderers once again showed they are becoming increasingly difficult to break down.

The visitors doubled their lead just before half-time through Lachlan Sattout, whose awareness inside the box allowed him to capitalise on a loose ball following a Jesse Cameron long throw. The goal capped off a dominant first-half performance and gave the Wanderers a deserved advantage heading into the break.

If the opening 45 minutes belonged to the Wanderers collectively, the second half belonged to Lual.

The striker exploded into life after the restart, adding his second goal moments into the half before completing his hat-trick shortly after. His movement, finishing and relentless work rate proved too much for the Sydney FC defence to handleas the Wanderers continued to create chances at will.

Abdul-Rahman’s goal extended the lead further before Lual rounded out a memorable night by converting from thepenalty spot to register his fourth goal of the evening and move to 13 goals for the season.

Beyond the goals, what will please the Wanderers most was the manner of the performance. The Red and Blackpressed aggressively, defended with composure and showed a clinical edge in front of goal that has become increasingly evident in recent weeks.

The result secured a league double over Sydney FC following the Wanderers’ 4-0 victory earlier in the season, meaningthey finish the campaign’s two meetings with their rivals by an emphatic 10-0 aggregate scoreline.

Having now scored 11 goals across their last two matches without conceding, confidence continues to grow throughout the squad. With key players hitting form at the right time and momentum building with every passing week, theWanderers head into the next phase of the season full of belief and determined to continue their surge up the NPL NSW Men’s ladder.
