The Western Sydney Wanderers return to Wanderers Football Park on Sunday afternoon looking to build on last weekend’s victory when they host Western City Rangers.
The Wanderers got their season back on track with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Manly United at Cromer Park. After a tightly contested opening hour, Allyssa Ng Saad broke the deadlock in the 70th minute before Talia Younis doubled the advantage just three minutes later.
Although Manly pulled one back late through Sienna Dale, the Red & Black stood firm to claim a crucial three points and strengthen their grip on a finals position.
That result ended a four-match winless run and provides valuable momentum heading into the final weeks of the regular season, with every point becoming increasingly important in the race for finals football.
Western City Rangers, meanwhile, arrive full of confidence after recording their first league win in 16 matches. They produced a stunning 6-1 victory over Illawarra Stingrays, with Clare Holder starring with a hat-trick in a result that has given them renewed hope in their battle to avoid relegation.
While the Rangers will take confidence from last weekend’s performance, the Wanderers will be aiming to make home advantage count as they continue their push towards the finals.
The Key Decider: Clare Holder
Containing Clare Holder will be one of the Wanderers’ biggest challenges. The Rangers forward was in scintillating form last weekend with a hat-trick and will be their main attacking threat once again.
At the other end, the Wanderers will look to the in-form combination of Allyssa Ng Saad and Talia Younis to continue creating chances as they chase back-to-back victories.
