The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 side suffered a 3-0 defeat against Sutherland Sharks on Saturday afternoon at Wanderers Football Park.
The Wanderers were unable to produce the heroics seen in the reverse fixture against the Sharks earlier this season as they suffered a 3-0 loss against a visiting Sharks side on the weekend.
It was a fixture that started with promise for the Wanderers. In the opening five minutes, Marko Radovancevic created the first chance of the game looping a ball over the Sharks defence through to Lachlan Sattout in attack who took aim at goal, being denied by Danijel Nizic, making a sweeping save following the first attempt to prevent a follow up effort from Alaat Abdul-Rahman.
It was the pressing efforts of Richard Shoueiki that saw the visitors get their first in the tie, forcing a passing error in the Wanderers defence that led to the ball falling to the feet of Danny Choi who made no mistake in front of an empty net.
The Wanderers were able to close out the opening half with a chance of their own. Sattout releasing Abdul-Rahman on an incredible running effort against a towering van Amerongen before delivering a low driven cross to Lual at the backpost, missing the target with his attempt against the side netting.

Early in the second half it would be Lual again who found himself close to settling scores, cutting on the inside from the right-hand side of the field before unleashing a powerful shot, placed just some distance from the top right corner of the Sharks goal.
Shortly after, the visiting Sutherland Sharks side would double their lead through another Danny Choi goal. A long ball from Danijel Nizic brought down by Richard Shoueiki and threaded through the defence with precision by Nicholas Olsen would release Danny Choi for a 1-on-1 chance to grab his brace.
The Wanderers looked the best of the following chances to score however were unable to deliver the precision needed to claw their way back into the game.
The visiting Sharks side deploying a high-press against the Wanderers in added time would force a turnover in possession, and from quick one-two play between Nicholas Olsen and Tye McGowan, a final goal in the tie as substitute Tye McGowan sealed the win for the Sutherland Sharks.
A disappointing loss for the Wanderers but a result that can’t be explained by its scoreline, a match more closely contended than the resulting score would have you believe. The Wanderers created just as many chances as the visiting side however were unfortunate not to breakthrough the tie as the visitors did. The Wanderers will be looking to improve and head back to winning ways to close out the month.
