The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL Women’s side face another crucial test on Sunday evening when they travel to Cromer Park to take on an in-form Manly United in a match with significant finals implications.
The Wanderers enter the contest looking to halt a three-match losing streak after suffering a dramatic 5-3 defeat to league leaders Bulls FC Academy last weekend.
Jamie Dib’s side recovered brilliantly from a 3-0 deficit to level the scores through goals to Allyssa Ng Saad, Talia Younis and Alvina Khoshaba, but two late Bulls strikes denied the Wanderers what would have been a remarkable comeback.
While the result was disappointing, the character shown to fight back against the competition’s benchmark side will give the Red & Black confidence heading into the final weeks of the season.
Manly United, meanwhile, continue to build momentum at the perfect time of the year. Having lost just once in their last five matches, Tom Hopley’s side has climbed into contention for a finals berth and also impressed with their run to the Sapphire Cup Final. Confidence is high on the Northern Beaches, and victory on Sunday would further tighten the race for the top four.
After spending much of the campaign among the competition’s frontrunners, the Wanderers have seen their Premiership ambitions fade following three consecutive defeats. Their focus has now shifted to protecting their place inside the finals positions, with several sides closing the gap as the season enters its decisive stage.
The Wanderers will once again look to the trio of Allyssa Ng Saad, Talia Younis and Alvina Khoshaba, who all found the back of the net in last weekend’s spirited comeback. Manly, however, have shown they are capable of matching any side defensively and will back themselves on home turf at Cromer Park.

The Wanderers proved last weekend they have the attacking quality to trouble even the league leaders, but conceding five goals highlighted the defensive lapses that have hurt them during this recent run of results.
Manly have built their recent success on organisation and consistency, making them a difficult side to break down. If the Wanderers can rediscover the defensive stability that underpinned their strong first half of the season while maintaining their attacking threat, they’ll put themselves in a strong position to return to winning ways and take a significant step towards securing finals football.
