Four Wanderers selected for FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar

Western Sydney Wanderers FC is proud to announce that four Academy players have been selected to represent Australia at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026™, marking another significant milestone for the club’s youth development pathway.

Goalkeeper Lachlan Allen, attacker Georgio Hassarati and defenders Emile Katrib and Marcus Savic have all been named in Head Coach Carl Veart’s 21-player CommBank Joeys squad, which will compete on the world stage from 19 November to 13 December.

The Wanderers quartet make up four of the 17 players selected from A-League Men clubs, with the Red & Black boasting the largest representation of any club in the national squad.

Their selection is another proud achievement for the Wanderers Academy, highlighting the club’s continued commitment to identifying, developing and providing opportunities for emerging footballers from Western Sydney and beyond.

All four players have been involved in Australia’s preparations for the tournament, having most recently represented the Joeys at the U17 Copa España 2026 in September, where they gained valuable international experience against quality opposition.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup will provide another significant opportunity for Allen, Hassarati, Katrib and Savic to continue their development, testing themselves against some of the world’s most promising young footballers.

Australia returns to the tournament for the first time since 2019, having secured qualification through an impressive AFC U17 Asian Cup campaign in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

The Joeys advanced to the semi-finals of the continental tournament for the first time since 2018, including a commanding 3-0 quarter-final victory over Vietnam.

Veart’s side has been drawn into Group C alongside Argentina, Denmark and Mozambique, with all three group-stage fixtures to be played at the Aspire Zone in Al Rayyan, Qatar.

The Wanderers congratulate Lachlan, Georgio, Emile and Marcus on this outstanding achievement and wish them and the entire Joeys squad every success as they prepare to represent Australia on the world stage.
