NPL Preview: Wanderers vs Hills Brumbies

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to build on the momentum from last week’s victory when they host Hills Brumbies at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday night.

The Wanderers currently occupy fourth position on the NPL 2 and boast one of the league’s best defence.

Hills Brumbies start the weekend in eleventh position, however, victories over high-flying Northern Tigers and Central Coast Mariners earlier in the season prove that they will no easy task.

The Hills are yet to be kept scoreless this season with 10 different players finding the back of the net for the north-west Sydney outfit.

Brumbies also have two players that have represented Australia in futsal, top scorer Greg Giovenali and his brother Wade.

For the Wanderers, Charles Abou Serhal had a great performance in the midfield last week and also scored from the penalty spot.

After starting last year in the Academy’s U20s, Abou Serhal was promoted to the NPL 2 squad midway through the year and is now a regular starter.

Abou Serhal is also known to be a threat from set pieces and hit the frame of the goal twice from free kicks in last week’s match.

Noah Pagden was another player who impressed in last week’s clash.

The centreback, who has recently turned 17, progressed rapidly since he joined the Wanderers Academy.

Incredibly, he started last year in the Academy’s U15 squad before making his way through the grades to feature in the NPL 2 this year.

When these two teams met back in Round 6, the Wanderers won 3-1 in a very hard-fought game.

Keanu Baccus, Kosta Grozos and Matthew Lecce were the scorers for the Red & Black that night.

Entry to the match is free for all Wanderers members, while tickets for non-Members are $10 for adults and $5 for concession card holders.
