The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers continued their performance level from the midweek win over Guizhou Renhe with a dominating display against Adelaide United on Saturday night at Pirtek Stadium.
While the 0-0 final score may not have been the perfect result, the fashion in which the Red and Black bossed Adelaide around the park left Head Coach Tony Popovic pleased with the effort.
A severe thunderstorm hit Parramatta just before kick-off, forcing the start of the match to be delayed by 30 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch.
Once play got started the Wanderers were on song from the beginning, pressing Adelaide in their own half and not allowing them to attack.
With their territorial advantage the Red and Black created a number of chances, the best coming ten minutes before the break when Adam D’Apuzzo’s cross found its way to Youssouf Hersi at the far post but he couldn’t divert his volley on target.
The second half followed a similar theme with the Wanderers trying everything to unlock their opponent-s defence.
Aaron Mooy and Brendon Santalab had shots saved from distance and when Kwabena Appiah and Tomi Juric were introduced it lifted the Wanderers to another level.
With the pressure piled on it was only goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic who kept Adelaide in the match, including repeated saves in additional time as the Wanderers barraged the Reds- goals with four shots within a minute.
