Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today announced that the Hyundai A-League Round 19 fixture between Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers scheduled for Saturday 15 February 2014 at AAMI Park, Melbourne, has been switched to Tuesday 14 January 2014.
The original date was scheduled at AAMI Park on a date which is unavailable due to an upcoming concert event.
Head of Hyundai A-League Damien de Bohun said the two clubs and AAMI Park management had collaborated to deliver the best outcome for all parties involved in the draw amendment.
“The original HAL draw was published with an expectation about the availability of AAMI Park, but we are now dealing with the certainty that the concert event is confirmed and has priority in this occasion,” said de Bohun.
“While there is always some inconvenience in these amendments, we’re delighted that the new date falls into the Christmas / New Year holiday period and will be become a marquee match in our Summer of Football campaign.”
De Bohun said that the current advice from the Asian Football Confederation that Melbourne Victory could be involved in an Asian Champions League preliminary match on 15 February was another factor mitigating in favour of switching the match to 14 January at AAMI Park.
“We won’t know the final ACL preliminary draw and format until November, but there’s a probability that Victory will have a one-off qualifier on 15 February. Today’s confirmation of the draw amendment means Victory can plan for the ACL draw and the 2013/13 fixture with more certainty.”
