The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have shared the points with Central Coast Mariners in a 2-2 draw at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
An Oriol Riera penalty cancelled out Asdrúbal’s opener before Roly Bonevacia eventually levelled things after Daniel De Silva had put the Mariners 2-1 up.
The result leaves the Wanderers undefeated and sitting on four points from two rounds ahead of Saturday’s Sydney Derby.
Jumpei Kusukami had the Wanderers’ first chance of the night after a clever through ball from Álvaro Cejudo but he the Japanese winger was flagged offside before he could get his effort away.
The Wanderers should’ve perhaps had the opener after a swift attack saw Cejudo combine with Riera but the number 9 was denied well by Mariners keep Tom Glover.
It was the Mariners though who would broke the deadlock, Asdrúbal pounced on a rebound as Vedran Janjetovic failed to hold onto an Andrew Hoole strike.
The Red & Black drew level before the break when Bonevacia was brought down in the box in the 37th minute.
Riera stepped up and converted, scoring his sixth goal in five games for the club.
After the break the Mariners leapt back into the lead when Hoole slipped in Daniel De Silva in behind the Wanderers defence and finished over Janjetovic.
It was only six minutes until the Wanderers equalised once more as Bonevacia buried a loose ball in the box after Josh Risdon’s cross was spilled by Glover.
Central Coast were reduced to 10 men five minutes from time after Hoole was sent off for receiving his second yellow but the Mariners would hold on to record their first point of the season.
The Wanderers will now switch their focus to Saturday night’s blockbuster Sydney Derby at Allianz Stadium.
