Foxtel Y-League Preview: WSW v Canberra

On Saturday, we’ll be looking to extend our lead at the top of Y-League Group B when we take on Canberra United at Valentine Sports Park.

Canberra were not involved last weekend after their match against Sydney FC was postponed, with their most recent result being a 2-0 loss to Newcastle. Although they are currently bottom of Group B, the side from the nation’s capital are likely to provide a difficult match, following on from our last meeting, which we won 1-0 thanks to a 91st minute penalty from John Roberts.

For the Wanderers, Thomas Aquilina is one to watch after solid performances in recent weeks. The versatile defender joined the WSW Academy in 2016 from Football NSW Institute, starting with our U15 squad. Equally comfortable at centre back or right back, the 17 year old has tasted Grand Final success with both our U18 and U20 Academy teams, and made his Y-League debut for the club earlier this month in our 1-0 win over Sydney FC.

Further forward, Marc Tokich has been a key player in midfield for the Red & Black. Originally from Canberra, Tokich previously played for FFA Centre of Excellence, where he won the 2016/17 Y-League Player of The Year Award. The 19 year old has impressed since signing for the Red & Black in 2017, scoring in February’s Y-League Grand Final win over Melbourne City, before making his A-League debut the following month against the same club.

Entry to this match is FREE for all Wanderers members.
