Shining the spotlight on female football

Promoting the women’s game has been high on the Wanderers’ agenda in recent months.

The presence of female football is stronger than ever before.

Over the last month, the Western Sydney Wanderers have been spreading the word in the community to ensure that everyone in the Western Sydney region is this week paying homage to contribution of women in football.

Starting in February, the Wanderers have been involved in a variety of female football activations in The Hills and Nepean football districts.

The Wanderers have provided professional Westfield W-League players to attend expo events to encourage grassroots registrations, support the growth of female football and most importantly demonstrate that there is a pathway to becoming a professional female footballer.

Leading into March, the Red & Black have attended events across Bankstown, Liverpool and Blue Mountains.

Wanderer Angelique Hristodoulou visited Bankstown Girls High School’s Gala Day in conjunction with Bankstown FC and shared her journey and how she goes about balancing life’s commitments with young aspiring footballers.

The Red & Black have taken their dedication to Female Football Week to a whole another level by extending an offer of 1,000 free tickets to registered female players, coaches, referees and volunteers across the Club’s nine member associations for tonight’s match against Wellington Phoenix.

Coming up, the 2017 edition of the Wanderers School Cup is set to kick-off in April, with the female Year 7 and 8 divisions launching the competition, which last year featured almost 200 teams.
